About First Frost Home

About us

First Frost Home is a small shop with one job: helping U.S. homes get ready for winter, starting at the wood stove.

Who we are

One person, a short winter shelf

First Frost Home is run by one person, Miguel Nunes da Costa, a sole trader in Portugal. There's no big team and no call center. There's a short list of winter jobs, a heat-powered stove fan, a plain guide for the rest of the house, and a real person who reads your email.

Our stove fan is made in China and shipped from overseas to the lower 48 states and Washington, D.C. Most orders arrive in 7–15 business days. It's $49.99 with U.S. shipping included, and it comes with a magnetic stove thermometer and our 46-page Winter-Ready House guide by email.

Why we started

The old fall jobs, in the right order

Getting a house ready for winter used to be a list folks just knew: walk your walls for small gaps, get the outside faucets ready before the first Freeze Warning, check the firewood before you pay for the cord.

We started First Frost Home to put that list in one place. Our guide shows the how and the why, in big print, in the order you'd do them. And for the wood stove, we sell one thing: a fan that runs on the stove's own heat and moves the warm air out into the room.

What's different here

Plain, honest and easy to read

  • A set, not just a fan. The stove fan comes with a magnetic stove thermometer, our big-print Woodpile card and the 46-page guide, with U.S. shipping included in the $49.99.
  • The why, not just the what. Our guide explains why each job matters and how to do it, step by step.
  • Big print. On this site, in the guide and on the printable cards.
  • 30-day money-back, nothing to send back. If the stove fan isn't right for you, write to us and we refund you. You keep the fan.
  • No tricks. No made-up reviews, no countdown clocks, no "only 3 left," no crossed-out prices.
  • Plain facts about where things come from. Made in China, and shipped to you from overseas.

Would you rather buy a stove fan somewhere else? You can, and we'll say so: lots of stores sell them. Our Winter-Ready House guide is $9 on its own, for the rest of the winter jobs around the house.
